Dollar has biggest daily rise in four years and nearly reaches R$ 3.90 again
In a day of economic turmoil in domestic and foreign markets, the US dollar posted its biggest daily rise in four years and nearly reached R$3.90 again. The dollar closed Tuesday (Oct. 13) sold at R$ 3.893, up 3.58%.
The Central Bank (BC) continued to renew currency swaps contracts, and extended the expiration date of 10,275 contracts that would expire in November. In this mode, the BC does not auction new contracts; it only postpones the expiration of outstanding contracts.
In addition to the economic turmoil, the dollar rose due to data released showing China's economic slowdown, with imports 17.7% down in September compared with the same month last year. As China is the largest consumer of raw materials in the world, the decline has driven the dollar on commodity-exporting countries, like Brazil.
Despite the dollar rise today, the US currency accumulates a fall of 1.81% in October. But the year-to-date hike reaches 46.4%.
