After 12 days of fluctuations and highs, the US dollar closed Wednesday (Sep. 30) at R$3.964, 2.31% lower. But it has increased 9.3% in September. The US currency shows a year-to-date increase of 49.1%.

As in recent days, the Central Bank (BC) intervened this Wednesday only in future market. The monetary authority renewed currency swap contracts with expiration date in October, without selling new contracts.

Since Friday (Sep. 25), the Central Bank has not held online auctions, by selling dollars from international reserves under repurchase agreements. At the end of last week, Central Bank president Alexandre Tombini had announced that the bank could sell in cash dollars from the country's international reserves to the currency market, which has not been done since February 2009. Despite his announcement, the central bank did not come to sell dollars from foreign exchange reserves, which currently mount to $370.6 billion.
