Judge Sérgio Moro ordered a few moments ago the arrest of Brazil’s former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Lula has been given until 5 pm tomorrow (Apr. 6) to report to the Federal Police.
The measure comes following a decision made yesterday (4) by the country’s Supreme Court to deny a habeas corpus petition filed by the onetime leader’s counsel in a bid to change a 2016 court ruling authorizing the imprisonment of convicts after all appeal possibilities are over with an appellate court.
Lula was sentenced to 12 years and one month in jail in connection with the case surrounding the ownership of a triplex apartment in coastal Guarujá, São Paulo, as part of Operation Car Wash.
