Temer says he is “almost certain” charges against him will be dropped

President Michel Temer said he is “almost certain” the charges filed against him will be rejected by the Chamber of Deputies. He was indicted on corruption charges by the Prosecutor-General, based on the plea bargaining testimony given by executives of JBS meatpacking group.
The charges against the sitting president can only be examined by the Supreme Court if accepted by the Chamber of Deputies.
“I will abide by the decision of Congress. I hope, I'm almost sure, we will succeed before the Chamber of Deputies,” the president told BandNews radio on Monday (July 3) about the lower house vote on the charges against him.
Temer went on call the Prosecutor-General's case is “weak” and say he is “very excited” about the industrial performance reported by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).
“I'm very excited. My enthusiasm is growing because we are actually doing very well. Reforms are moving ahead, inflation is waning. The CNI today announced factory sales were up 5.5%, installed industrial capacity is 77.4%, and in June we had the best trade balance in the time series since 1989,” Temer said.
The president wrapped up the interview by saying Brazil is not stagnant. “Brazil won't stop. It's moving on, and we're certain about what we're doing as a government as well as in ethical and moral .”
