President Michel Temer has said he will talk with representatives of workers, business leaders, and other of civil society before submitting a pension reform to Congress. The government has been working on a proposal for a few months now, but the latest draft has not been presented to unions yet.

According to Presidential Spokesman Alexandre Parola, the government wants to talk to different sectors before tabling the reform in Congress.

“The president wants to engage in a thorough, comprehensive dialogue with workers, employers, trade unions, civil society, and political leaders about the pension reform and how critical it is,” Parola said on Wednesday (26 Oct).

Worker representatives and retirees are waiting for a meeting with the government to discuss the proposal. Earlier this month, Temer had slated a meeting with the chairs of all central workers' unions, but it did not take place.
