Odebrecht targeted again at Operation Car Wash stage 26 crackdown

São Paulo - Federal Police officers arrive at Odebrecht headquarters at stage 23 of Operation Car Wash
The Federal Police launched another crackdown as stage 26 of its Operation Car Wash corruption probe this morning (Mar. 22). Dubbed “Xepa”, its is an offshoot of stage 23, and has revealed a slush fund scheme in Odebrecht construction company to pay illegal kickbacks to third parties. According to a Federal Police press statement, multiple schemes show direct or indirect links with public officials on local, state, and national levels.
The investigators found cash payments to third parties designated by senior executives of Odebrecht Group, across different divisions within the company.
“There is material evidence that Odebrecht Group has used 'financial operators' linked with the black exchange market to obtain these resources,” the statement read.
About 380 federal police men have been deployed to enforce 110 court orders in eight states and the Federal District. They are serving 67 search and seizure and 28 bench warrants and 15 detention of suspects, 11 of which are temporary orders.
