President Dilma Rousseff is reactivating the Council for Economic and Social Development (CDES) this week, under the theme “Renegotiating the Development Path”.

Established in 2003, the CDES is defined as an advisory body to the President in government policy-making and for discussing proposals on public policy, structural reforms, and economic and social development referred to it by the President. It consists of 90 representatives from the civil society, the business community, and trade unions. It has not met since July 2014.

At the council's first meeting on Thursday (Jan. 28), Rousseff should propose the creation of working groups to discuss the pension reform and other topics.
