Rousseff wants to quickly settle impeachment issue

President Dilma Rousseff
President Dilma Rousseff said today (Dec. 7) that she defends convening special session in Congress, interrupting the parliamentary recess so that the situation created by the impeachment proceedings initiated against her can be settled as quickly as possible.
She declared that the way in which Congress would be summoned is not clear yet, since the president of the republic or the Congress president could interrupt the recess. However, she said she will discuss with Congress President Senator Renan Calheiros, member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB), about the issue. In the president's view, "it is not right to leave the country waiting."
"Not only would I rather not have recess as I think there should not be a recess. We are facing a situation in which we cannot stop the country until February 2," she mentioned referring to the date on which Congress would reopen the works in 2016. According to the president, it would not be fair to summon parliamentarians during Christmas and New Year's Day, but we could debate and address pending issues right after the holidays.
About the convocation agenda, Rousseff pointed out that it would have to be evaluated, but said that it should be established including "every pending issue for impeachment proceedings."
