Brasília - Rousseff announces six new ministers Valter Campanato/Agência Brasil

President Dilma Rousseff has announced the names of the six new ministers in the second round of a cabinet reshuffle which started just over a month ago. The reappointments are designed to provide replacements for the ministers who will have to give up their seats by April 5 in order to run for offices in the general elections on October 5. In the first round, the Chief of Staff, the Minister of Health, and the Secretary for Social Communication of the Presidency (SECOM) were replaced.

The new Minister of Agrarian Development will be Miguel Rossetto, who has previously held the same seat under former president Lula. Rossetto is a founding member of Lula's and Rousseff's party, the Workers' Party (PT). With a degree in Social Sciences, has been actively engaged in trade union politics, and has served as a congressman and the vice-governor of Rio Grande do Sul. He has also held a position as CEO for Petrobras Biofuels.

The Ministry of Cities was given to Gilberto Occhi, a career employee of Caixa Econômica Federal (Caixa), the Federal Savings Bank, where he is also a National Superintendent for the Northeast Region. A Bachelor of Law, he has expertise in finance and financial markets.

Clelio Campolina Diniz, rector of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), is the new Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, replacing Marco Antonio Raupp. He holds degrees in Mechanical and Operations Engineering and a PhD in Economics. He has run a Technology Park in Belo Horizonte and was a member of the Scientific and Technical Board of the Council for Higher Education (CAPES).

Senator Eduardo Lopes will take over the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture from Senator Marcelo Crivelli. They are both of the Brazilian Republican Party (PRB) and are d with the Pentecostal Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (commonly shortened to “Universal”). Lopes has been a deputy and is currently the PRB leader in Senate. As a journalist, he has worked for Record TV network, owned by Universal, and was in charge of Universal Newsletter and Universal Publishing.

The new Minister of Agriculture will be Neri Geller, a former congressman (2007-2011) who currently serves as the Ministry's Agricultural Policy Secretary. He is also a leading grain farmer in the country.

The president's choice for the Ministry of Tourism was Vinicius Nobre Lages, a manager for international affairs at Brazil's small business consultancy service, SEBRAE, where he has been since 2007. Lages has worked for the National Council for Tourism, and has represented it with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). A PhD in Development Economics, he has coordinated the 2014 Sebrae Program designed to help businesses prepare for the FIFA World Cup this year.

The new ministers, who were announced on Thursday (Mar. 13) afternoon, take office next Monday (Mar. 17). According to SECOM, President Dilma Rousseff has complimented the six reg ministers on their hard work and commitment and has extended her continued and trust.
