Operation Verde Brasil (“Green Brazil”), which engages multiple agencies to combat the blazes in the Amazon, saw a decreased numbed of wildfires in the country in the last few days. Even though the fire is not expected to be extinguished in the coming days, the government’s assessment thus far is optimistic.
“The evaluation is positive. With the parameters of the [Management and Operations Center of the Amazon Protection System, Censipam], we saw that the wildfires decreased considerably,” vice-iral and deputy head of operations Ralph Dias da Silveira told the press on Wednesday (Aug 28).
