Brazil gov't pledges security for football matches in São Paulo

São Paulo Governor Geraldo Alckmin and Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes forged cooperation deals aimed at tightening up the security scheme for all ten football matches to be held in Brazil's largest capital city during the Olympic Games 2016. The agreements, signed Tuesday (Jun. 28), include a security plan for the delegations staying in São Paulo during the games which also covers the torch relay in some of the cities in São Paulo.

“We've received the tactical plan for both the Olympic Games and the torch relay through the state of São Paulo. We've also signed important deals, adding up to [over $3.7 million], covering from vehicles to intelligence technology, all the equipment for communication, protection, x-ray vehicles, and scanners,” Alckmin said.

After the games, the equipment will be subsequently sent to the Secretariat for Penitentiary istration and the Secretariat for Public Security, the governor announced.

According to the governor, the delegations of the US, China, , and Israel have confirmed athletes will undergo acclimatization in São Paulo for the Olympic Games. The city will host six men's football matches and four women's games at the Corinthians Arena.
