Eighty thousand Argentinians are expected in Porto Alegre to see Argentina play Nigeria today (Jun 25) at 1 pm, according to the Tourism Secretariat of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Most of them should enter Brazil by land across the border between Uruguaiana (Brazil) and Paso de Los Libres (Argentina). The huge influx of tourists from across the border has resulted in long queues at the immigration checkpoint.

However, only 18,000 among these Argentinians have bought tickets for the FIFA World Cup match, the tourism authority reported. In order to help ensure viewing opportunities for all visitors, an additional big screen was set up for public viewing next to the Fan Fest, an official FIFA event with a capacity for up to 20,000 people.

Since the 1st of June, 53,773 foreign visitors have entered Brazil via Rio Grande do Sul, among whom 30,881 Argentinians.

At the Beira-Rio Stadium, which will host today’s match, the authorities will tighten up their security screenings of spectators at the first entrance way to prevent people from approaching the gates without tickets.
