The Municipal Truth Commission of São Paulo addressed a letter to President Dilma Rousseff on Thursday (Mar. 6) requesting that the military dictatorship should be held guilty of the death of Juscelino Kubitschek, president of Brazil from 1956 to 1960.

Since last year, the Commission has investigated Kubitschek's death and concluded that its official version was forged during the military dictatorship (1964-1985).

As it stands today, the official version claims that JK died in August 1976 in a car accident on a highway named Rodovia Presidente Dutra, when the vehicle in which he was traveling collided with a truck.

"Juscelino Kubitschek didn’t lose his life in a simple car accident, as alleged by authorities in the military period according to investigations carried out in 1976 and even later", said local councilor and president of the Municipal Truth Commission Gilberto Natalini in a press release. "JK was the victim of conspiracy, plot and political attack.  Now, we demand federal authorities to proclaim officially JK’s assassination so that we can change once and for all this shameful chapter in our history."
