Marcus D'Almeida, 25, from Rio de Janeiro, is the new number 1 in the world ranking of recurve archery, and the first from Brazil to occupy the top of the list. D'Almeida secured the lead by winning on Sunday (5) the unprecedented title for the country in The Vegas Shoot tournament - indoor competition in Las Vegas (United States) - which brought together 67 competitors.

In the Las Vegas tournament - from February 3 to 5 - the 66 competitors in the curved archery test could shoot up to 30 arrows per day, adding up to a maximum value of 900 points. D'Almeida was champion with a total of 892 points, one more than second place, the Frenchman Thomas Chirault. In third place was the German Felix Wieser (888 points).

Last year's Pan American champion, D'Almeida received the 2022 Brazil Olympic Award for the best archery athlete, awarded by COB. On the 30th, the Brazilian was nominated by the World Archery for the best athlete of the year award in the recurve bow category. Voting, open to the public on the federation's website, continues until February 28.
