FPF announces groups for the 2022 São Paulo Junior Soccer Cup

The São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) announced this Monday (13) the 32 groups of the 2022 edition of the São Paulo Football Junior Cup. Considered the biggest youth tournament in the country, Copinha will bring together 128 teams from 26 states and the Federal District, which will play in 32 venues, spread over 30 cities in São Paulo. The city of São Paulo will host games in three different locations.
The competition will start on January 2nd and run until the 25th, the anniversary of the city of São Paulo. The final is part of the date's festivities. According to the president of the FPF, Reinaldo Carneiro Bastos, there will be more than 3,000 athletes participating in the event, which has been held since 1969.
Copinha, which is an under-20 tournament, was not held in 2021 because of the covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the FPF will authorize, in this edition, the participation of athletes born in 2001 - who will turn 21 in 2022.
The last edition was held in 2020. At the time, Internacional defeated Grêmio by 3-1, on penalties, after tying by 1-1 in normal time. The final was played at Pacaembu, which is currently undergoing renovations and will not be able to receive the decision in 2022.
