Petrobras posts record output in June
Petrobras closed out June with an average production rate of 2.9 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), a record-breaking monthly average. The previous mark had been set in August 2015, with 2.88 million boepd.
The figures released Saturday (Jul. 9) by the oil giant reveal that the production in June is 2% higher than May's 2.83 million boepd. Also in June, a total 2.7 million barrels of oil derive from fields in the country, and 200 thousand from fields overseas.
The data indicate that the total 2.7 million barrels of oil and natural gas produced from Brazilian fields also add up to a monthly record, superseding the previous 2.69 million barrels per day (bpd), reported in August last year.
The average production of oil in June was ed at 2.3 million bpd (up 2% from May's 2.24 million), of which 2.20 million were produced in Brazil, 100 thousand abroad. Petrobras further states that the amount of oil produced in June in Brazil is the third highest monthly average rate ever observed by the oil company.
As for Brazil's production of natural gas (liquefied not included), the rate reached 78.8 million m³ per day (m³/d), 3% higher than the previous month (76.4 million). The average production of natural gas from the fields overseas stood at 17.2 million m³/d, down 4% from the 17.9 million in the previous month.
Petrobras attributed the increase in its production chiefly to the introduction of new wells in the Lula field. The data made public by the oil firm also show that the oil and natural gas output from fields in the pre-salt area closed out June with a record-breaking rate: 1.24 million boepd—an 8% hike from May.
The production of oil operated by Petrobras and its partners in pre-salt fields in June also amounts to new monthly record—999 thousand barrels of oil per day, another 8% expansion against May. The highest amount of oil extracted in a single day was also ed in June: 1,087,000 barrels, on June 30th.
